MIRI: Police detained an Indonesian immigrant, aged 45, and seized 52g of crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine worth about RM5,200 from him on Friday evening (March 26).

The suspect was arrested by Bintulu Lumber Development (BLD) auxiliary policemen at a rat trail in Suai, Niah before he was handed over to Miri District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) for further action.

During the arrest, the authorities found 141 plastic tube straws containing the drugs on the suspect.

Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari who confirmed the arrest, said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death penalty if found guilty.
