Indonesian, local arrested for illegal lottery sales

A local woman was arrested five minutes after the Indonesian, at Kampung Punau last Sunday.

PADAWAN: Police arrested an Indonesian man and a local woman from two separate premises at Kampung Punau, Mile 17, Jalan Puncak Borneo last Sunday (Jan 24).

District police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said both arrests were carried out by Padawan CID team in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Dadu’.

The first arrest involving a 26-year-old Indonesian man, happened around 6.35pm in an unnumbered hut.

“The man was arrested on suspicion of conducting online gambling sales activity in which the team also seized a phone and RM195 cash from the suspect.

“Following interrogation, the suspect admitted to being an online gambling seller and is now remanded to facilitate investigation,” he said.

Five minutes later, the CID team raided an eatery at Kampung Punau and arrested a 32-year-old local woman for allegedly conducting unlicensed public lottery sales.

Supt Aidil noted that the woman admitted to working as an unlicensed public lottery seller and the team seized a phone, two papers written with numbers and RM359 cash.

Background checks found that the woman had a past record related to gambling.

He stated that both cases were being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
