MIRI: An Indonesian man suspected of stabbing an assistant project manager to death in front of a snooker centre in Kampung Kayu Kapor here last Saturday night was detained by police on Tuesday.

Miri District Police chief, ACP Khoo Leng Huat said a police team led by ASP Unang Giang tracked down the suspect and arrested him by the roadside at Jalan Kampung Skrat, KM124 Jalan Miri-Bintulu here at 5.15pm.

He said they (police) believed the case was solved following the arrest of the 26-year-old man.

“Besides the arrest, police also seized a Bugis knife known as badek and a grey T-shirt believed to be used by the suspect at the time of the incident,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Khoo said the suspect was remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation.

“The case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he added.

Last Saturday, a foreign man believed to be intoxicated had stabbed Yusuf Sidani in the chest with a sharp object, believed to be a knife.

The 45-year-old assistant project manager from Kampung Slabi Empurung, Serian, died on the spot during the incident which occurred at 8.00pm. 

Two other victims in their 20s, from Indonesia, were also injured in the incident and were taken to Miri Hospital for treatment.
