BINTULU: A young woman died in a fire at a workers’ quarters at a plywood factory in Jalan Kemena during the early hours of the day.

The fire was reported directly Bintulu Bomba station at 2.59am early this morning. Personnel from the station were deployed to the scene.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Operations Centre, the operations commander there said the fire involved one block of building with seven rooms.

“Only one room, Unit 5, was completely destroyed by the fire and the area of the unit measures approximate 20×20 square feet.

“Firemen on scene conducted a size up of the situation and was told that there was one female occupant inside the unit,” it said.

The team proceeded to commenced extinguishing operations using one line of hose. There were another two occupants but were not inside as they are working on night shift.

The fire was completely put out at 3.20am. The remains of the 24-year-old Indonesian woman was found and then handed over to the police for further action.

The firemen returned to the station after the situation was deemed safe. The operations ended at 5.30am.
