SIBU: The ‘Infak Baju Raya Al Bait’ project has benefited more than 2,200 underprivileged individuals in Sarawak since its launch in Kuching last year.

The project was initiated by Yayasan Kepimpinan Al Bait (YKAB) and run in collaboration with Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS).

According to TBS general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie, the project has been well-received by the community since its introduction and expansion to other areas across the state.

“Alhamdulillah, the response from the community has been excellent. Thus far, we have distributed a total of 12,700 sets of clothes to families who have benefited from this programme for 2,200 days across Sarawak, including in Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Mukah,” he said.

Mohd Shibli speaks to reporters.

He said this a visit to the ‘Infak Baju Raya Al Bait’ project after attending the Majlis Iftar Perdana Bersama Asnaf at the Sibu Islamic Complex here last night (Mar 22).

He added that the project was inspired after noticing that many individuals in the community, capable of donating clothes that had been worn only once or twice, contributed to the project

“Through this project, the needy can feel the pleasure of getting better clothes, especially baju kurung, tudung, and others. Not only women but also for men, there are plenty of baju Melayu, jubah, and kurta available,” he said.

Mohd Shibli also called on the public, especially the Muslim community, to donate their clothes that are still in good condition to YKAB.

“In Sibu, we have the Ummah Distribution Centre, and we have representatives from YKAB. They can come here and assist in storing and ensuring that the clothes can be distributed in better condition,” he said.
