2020 State Budget

KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has gotten its focus in the State 2020 Budget right.

Masing, who is Infrastructure and Ports Development Minister, noted that the main focus was on the development of infrastructure.

Consequently, he said, this was a development centric budget with rural areas as the main focus.

“Without infrastructure, no development can take place in Sarawak. Therefore, my ministry is grateful that the focus is on infrastructure development,” he said.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also Finance Minister, yesterday, tabled the budget of RM9.891 billion. Out of this amount, RM6.5 billion (67 per cent) is for development and RM3.29 billion (33 per cent) is for operating expenditure.

Some 63 per cent of the 67 per cent development budget is for improving basic rural infrastructure such as roads, bridges and supplies of water and electricity.
