International Bike Week attracts over 10,000 visitors

SERIAN: More than 10, 000 visitors have attended the First Serian International Bike Week (FSIBW) being held at Tasik Danu Serian for three days from last Friday until today (March 3).

The event is hailed as a new attraction for this district, as big bike enthusiasts from other parts of the world gathered here.

For the event some 1,500 big bike enthusiasts from Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, Labuan, Indonesia and Peninsular Malaysia gathered at a stadium here with their big and powerful bikes.

Among those present at the event were Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah wo represented Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem.

When officiating at the event, Abdul Karim said that SFIBW was a historic moment for the Serian district because the event made Serian as a venue for the gathering of big bike enthusiasts from other parts of the world.

“This event also has the potential to attract more visitors to Serian district and to encourage bike enthusiast among the youths, especially in Serian to pursue their interest in a beneficial way.

“I also hope that this event will increase economic activities in Serian with the presence of more visitors,” he said.

He added that as Serian is the 12th division of the state more events should to be held and promoted to further develop the division and to make it progress further.

“The state government’s pursuit of progress and development cannot be realised without the involvement of the people,” he pointed out.

The First Serian International Bike Week 2019 is being organised by Shafwan Mahri from PER3 in collaboration with Serian Motor Club (SMC).

Shafwan said the event was held to gather big bike enthusiasts throughout the world to have a venue to gather, interact and to foster ties.

Meanwhile, other activities held during the event are RC Powerboat Open Race 2019, Mr Body Beautiful, Miss Serian Bike Week 2019 and performances by Malaysian rock icon, Mus May.
