KUCHING: The 5th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2022 will be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on June 21 and 22.

Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the IDECS 2022 themed “Decoding Big Data for Environmental & Energy Sustainability” was in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 goals.

“It focuses on economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability as well as to reiterate the new Sarawak government’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the digital era driven by data and innovation.”

He said during a press conference here on yesterday.

Dr Hazland, who is also the conference advisor, said IDECS 2022 would be featuring Jim Hagemann Snabe, chairman of Siemens & Maersk; Eileen Burbidge, one of the UK’s Biggest Tech Personalities and London’s Most Influential Venture Capitalist; and Prem Kumar Menon, head of Enterprise Strategy at Digital Nasional Berhad as the keynote speakers.

Alvin Wee, a Kuching-born musician, who made history by becoming the first Malaysian to win a Cinema Audio Society (CAS) Award in Hollywood for his work in Disney’s film “Encanto”, would be among those who will be presenting their topics.

The two-day event will feature discussion on eleven topics namely Environmental & Energy Sustainability; Innovation; Digital Transformation; Smart & Sustainable Cities; Big Data Analytics; Green Transport; Agriculture Sustainability; Sustainable Enterprises & Start-Ups; Manufacturing (IR 4.0); Smart & Inclusive Communities, and Creative Industries.

The conference will also be showcasing expositions and exhibitions from various government, government-linked and private agencies. The targeted audience for this conference will be of the public and private sectors in Sarawak including international.

Meanwhile, Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit announced that the event would continue to adopt the hybrid approach, with an estimated attendance of 3,000 participants and more than 40,000 online viewers.

“IDECS 2022 will be a special edition as it marks the fifth year of inception and realisation of the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy (2018-2022).

“There will be two special highlights of the conference, which are the Digital Satellite Programme (DSP) and Digital Economy Award (DEA), held in conjunction with IDECS.”

Also present at the press conference were Sarawak Multimedia Authority chief scientist and chief advisor for digital economy, Prof Jugdutt (Jack) Singh; deputy chief scientist and deputy chief advisor for digital economy, Prof Ir Ts Dr Al-Khali Othman, Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence CEO Dr Asleena Helm, Sarawak Economic Planning Unit deputy director Rozaini Mohammad Zahir and SMA head of legal and secretarial unit, Kezia Norella Daim Manor.
