BINTULU: Forty secondary students here participated in a camp to mark International Forest Day at Simalajau National Park here from March 15 to 17.

The camp was jointly organised by Sarawak Forest Department of Sarawak and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus.

The students were from SMK Bintulu, SMK Tatau, SMK Sebauh, SMK Baru Bintulu, SMK Kemena, SMK Asyikirin, SMK Kidurong and SMK Sebauh.

The camp was officiated at by State Forest Department deputy director Jack Liam last Friday.

A representative of Bintulu Regional Forest Office Sanusi Juni delivering a talk on forest conservation to the camp participants.

He was also present at the closing ceremony on Sunday and to present prizes to contest winners and certificates of participation to the students.

Among the activities held during the camp were “Look and See: Wildlife Trade & Wild Puzzle”, “Nature Supermarket”, environmental game, environmental performance: conservation sketch, as well as Queen and King of the Jungle.

Team-based activities such as “Lukisan Indah”, Fantasy Forest, Jungle Box and other interesting activities related to the environment were also held.

With the theme ‘Forests and Education’, the camping programme aimed to offer additional knowledge and to foster the love for nature among the students. Besides, the programme can also enhance the spirit of consensus, discipline and boost morale.
