KUCHING: IPD Miri emerged at the champions after beating IPD Kuching team 1-0  in the Sarawak Contingent Police Commissioner Cup Football tournament at Unimas Stadium recently.

In the final, both teams had equal chances to score but their forwards came up short and failed to find the net in the first 45 minutes.

IPD Miri edged IPD Kuching team through Sulibtisam Sulaiman who scored the winning goal.

The scoreline stayed until the final whistle. Pulapol Kuching finished third after beating IPD Laws 2-0.

A total of 23 teams participated in the week-long tournament which comprised teams from district police headquarters, general operations force (PGA), Pulapol, Marine police.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Azman Yusof who officiated at the event noted that the state police contingent team were among the strongest sides in the recent Inspector General of Police Cup, finishing second in the campaign.

The state police team would be able to win or be a serious contenders for the title in future Inspector General of Police Cup tournament, he said.

Also present was Samarahan district police headquarters chief DSP Lee Chong Chern.
