KUCHING: All those arriving from Semenanjung, Sabah and Labuan will have their samples taken on landing.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this is one of the latest precautionary measures taken by the committee following an IPT (higher learning institution) cluster reported outside Sarawak.

“They will be screened and placed at a hotel until the sample result is known. If the sample result is negative, they are allowed to return home and will be given the QR-coded wristband and to continue the quarantine period at home,” he said during the daily Covid-19 press conference yesterday.

On civil servants who are in Semenanjung, Sabah and Labuan but having to return to Sarawak to work, the Deputy Chief Minister said they are required to take the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test three days before returning here.

“They are only allowed to return to Sarawak if the test result is negative,” he said.

Uggah revealed that about 4,931 students had returned from Semenanjung, Sabah and Labuan.

“SDMC has also made arrangement for 1,451 local students studying here to go back to their respective homes throughout the state,” he said.

Uggah further said the Sarawak government has given relaxation to allow foreign workers in the state to return to their homelands.

“However, the state government does not guarantee that they could come back to Sarawak,” he said.

He added that SDMC is still is discussion with the State Health Department and Social Security Organisation (Socso) on a suitable measures to conduct the Covid-19 screening for all local and foreign workers in the state.

On another note, Uggah reminded that for the coming Hari Raya and Gawai, no visiting is allowed.

He said celebrations will only be for immediate families of not more than 20 people on the first day of the festivities.

“This means no open house, no visiting graveyards and other activities such as tahlil and feasts or kenduri,” he pointed out.
