KUCHING: Some 200 participants comprising taxation practitioners, members of professional bodies and the media attended a dialogue on the implementation of Electronic Tax Invoices (e-Invoice) held at the Pullman Hotel here, yesterday.

The dialogue was organised by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to provide an understanding on the implementation of the e-invoicing system.

IRB deputy chief executive officer (Management) Hisham Rusli said, businesses that reach a sales threshold value of more than RM100 million per year will be the first target group to be involved in the phased implementation of IRB e-invoicing starting from 2024. Its implementation will be mandatory for all businesses by 2027.

“The implementation of this e-invoicing is one of the efforts towards Compliance-by-Design to increase the level of comprehensive and automatic tax compliance which is developed based on the experience and best practices of international taxation administrators,” he said in his opening address to the participants.

To date, engagement sessions on the implementation of e-invoicing have been held in the Klang Valley on May 22 and in the North Zone on June 9.

“It is hoped that by organizing this third series of engagement sessions, it will be of some benefit to the Sarawak Zone participants regarding the implementation of e-invoices that will facilitate the taxation compliance process in line with IRB’s a role as a facilitator of compliance,” he said.

The e-invoicing initiative is also expected to reduce correction costs, improve efficiency for taxpayers, and make the work process more organised.

The dialogue session, which lasted for about two hours, went on smoothly with participants asking questions, especially regarding preparations and issues after the implementation of e-Invoice.
