SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong Youth strongly disagreed with Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Dudong branch chairman Councillor Teo Boon Siew who said in a local daily’s publication that SUPP was no longer relevant in Dudong constituency.

In a press statement on Tuesday (Aug 4) Youth chairman of SUPP Dudong branch Benjamin Tian said there was a need to adhere to GPS consensus on seats.

“We would like to remind Councillor Teo Boon Siew to take heed of the advice of our Chief Minister who said that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) needed unity and politics of consensus.

The Chief Minister also said that GPS rejected “termites”.  The open statement by Councillor Teo is tantamount to the behaviour of a termite in GPS. We urge Councillor Teo to refrain from making this sort of statement which will create disunity amongst the GPS component parties,” he said.

In the GE14, Tian explained that Kelvin Kong was the candidate representing BN/SUPP in P211 Lanang.

Due to the 1MDB case, he said, BN lost almost all urban seats across the country.

“However, in Dudong constituency which is one of the state seats under P211 Lanang, Kelvin Kong still managed to procure 11,179 votes and lost to PH candidate by a mere 2436 votes only (in Dudong).

We are very confident that under the leadership of our Chief Minister, GPS/SUPP will recapture Dudong constituency in the coming state election. We say now that the 11,179 voters are the diehard supporters of GPS/SUPP in N52 Dudong,” he said.

After the former leader of SUPP had resigned from the cabinet, Tian said that SUPP party president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian had managed to regain the political appointments in Sibu.

These include Clarence Ting Ing Horh as chairman of Sibu Municipal Council, Robert Lau Hui Yew as a senator, Datuk Chieng Buong Toon as an advisor of Sibu Urban Renewal and the most recent one was the appointment of SUPP Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong as the deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council, he added.

The appointment of Wong Ching Yong as the deputy chairman of SRDC, he said has political significance as the appointment was endorsed by Sarawak Cabinet.

“In 2016 state election, there were BN direct candidates in Bekenu, Batu Danau and Pakan.

After winning the three state seats, the BN direct candidates joined other component parties of GPS.

“Would Teo or PDP give up these seats in the coming state election?” he asked.
