KUCHING: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s appointment as prime minister is the right and proper decision.

Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang said Ismail Sabri has wide experience as federal minister in various portfolios and was also an opposition leader in Parliament.

“As a former Minister of Defence and holding other portfolios before this, he is very qualified to take up the challenge as the prime minister.

“I think he will be able to lead the country well, prudently and wisely in making decisions because we really need a good leader while we are still battling with Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) information chief also hoped that the new prime minister would give priority to Sarawak through the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA 63) just like what the former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin did.

He also hoped that a Sarawakian MP would be considered for the deputy prime minister post in the new federal government.

“We are not asking for much, but if there are two portfolios of the deputy prime minister, one of them can be given to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) MP.

“It is our hope that a representative from Borneo can be given the opportunity to hold the important post in the country’s Cabinet,” he said when contacted today (Aug 20).
