ISSIC locations in five divisions yet to be determined

MUKAH: Locations for the Integrated Sarawak Social Intervention Centre (ISSIC) for Lawas in Limbang Division as well as Bintulu, Kapit, Sri Aman and Miri divisions have not been determined yet.

Sarawak Social Development Council executive secretary Dr Zufar Yadi Brendan Abdullah said for Mukah, the ground floor of the New Mukah Administrative Building had been proposed.

The Sarawak Development Council is under the Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK).

He added that for Kuching, Wisma Hoholim in Jalan Abel had been chosen while for Sibu, it was Bangunan Rumah Rehat Sri Rejang.

He said this during a visit by minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah to survey the proposed Mukah Division ISSIC location on Wednesday (Aug 11).

According to him, currently, there was no specific counselling service centre or social aid service centre in Sarawak to deal with social problems in society.

He explained that KWKPK recommended the formation of ISSIC as social support and intervention referral centre in the community in every division in Sarawak.

Dr Zufar added that it was an initiative by KWKPK to the Sarawak Economic Action Council under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
