SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong Branch chairman Wong Ching Yong assured that the low water pressure problems faced by some 30 longhouses located along Mile 10 to Mile 16, Jalan KJD would be solved.

“I will write a letter to the Ministry of Utilities about the problem and will hold a meeting with the Sarikei Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).

“After the appointment is set, I will bring all the Tuai Rumah to hold a dialogue session with relevant government departments in Sarikei,” he said during a visit to the longhouses along Mile 10 to Mile 16 at Jalan KJD and Ulu Durin Kiba River near here last Saturday.

During his visit, Wong received many complaints from a number of Tuai Rumah in the affected areas.

“The purpose of this visit is to better understand the low water pressure problems faced by longhouses in the area,” he added.

Wong later found out these longhouses had been facing low water pressure problems for a number of years.

Tuai Rumah Dayong Sahak told Wong that they were referred to the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarikei Division when they brought the issue to JBALB Sarikei Branch.

“When they met the JKR officer there, they were directed to go to the Sibu Water Board (LAS).

“After that, LAS advised them to go to JBALB Sarikei Branch. They were really disappointed,” he said.

Tuai Rumah Lyn Banyih from Ulu Sungai Durin Kiba also told Wong that the longhouse also needed electricity supply.

Wong said he would apply to the Ministry of Utilities to get electricity supply for Rumah Lyn under the Rural Electrification Scheme (RES).
