It happened in the blink of an eye, says croc attack witness

BINTULU: A fisherman could only watch as his friend was snatched and dragged into Sungai Semba by a crocodile late last night.

Prior to the incident, the victim, believed to be an Indonesian in his 40s, was fishing with his friend by the river bank along Jalan Pesisir Pantai Bintulu-Miri.

According to the victim’s friend, the attack happened in the blink of an eye when the victim was dragged into the waters by the reptile around 10.30pm.

It was understood that the man was wearing a grey long-sleeved shirt and jeans.

Firemen from Samalaju station were promptly despatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arriving, the team conducted an initial search around the victim’s last known location for an hour but, to no avail.

The search operation was later postponed due to nightfall and resumed this morning with water surface searching in a 1km search radius from the victim’s last location.

As at 10.15am, the victim is yet to be found.
