KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has slammed Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen for being shallow-minded.

On Sept 19, Chong, who is also the Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman in a statement, had said that PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang’s courtesy visit to the chief minister was an unholy union of PAS, Umno and PBB to take over PH government using racial politics.

“It was not a meeting with Hadi Awang, the one who paid the courtesy visit on me was the Menteri Besar of Terengganu Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar. He (Hadi) followed lah, because the Menteri Besar of Terengganu was his former political secretary,” he told reporters when met after the launch of Sheda Property Expo 2019 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), yesterday.

Abang Johari said Ahmad Samsuri had attended the Malaysia Day celebration at Stadium Perpaduan here on Sept 16, and which was why he (Ahmad Samsuri) visited him out of courtesy.

“So Hadi followed lah. How can we say Hadi you no need to be here lah. This is Sarawak hospitality bah. So, of course people (Chong) spinned the matter,” he added.
On the courtesy visit, Abang Johari revealed there was something that Ahmad Samsuri wanted to discuss which was related to oil and gas in Terengganu.

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) president asked what was wrong with him meeting Hadi when he had also met with the other PH leaders.

“You see if I meet Hadi, what’s wrong with me meeting PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim? I also met PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“I mean (to have that sort of thinking) is so shallow. When your politics is too shallow, susah (difficult) lah,” he said.

He went on to say that Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah had visited Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong (at a private hospital for suspected dengue fever on Sep 13).

“Karim went to visit Violet, you see. Don’t tell me there is something going on between Violet and Karim? No, right? That is why, so shallow.

“It’s really weird lah. Politics terok gilak (too much),” he added.

Abang Johari clearly said “No” when reporters asked him on Hadi’s willingness to work with GPS.
