KUCHING: The impending visit by the state’s legal team to London is a fact-finding mission, explained Law, Federal-State Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

“We are going there to find some facts and do our research,” she told reporters at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri at the old State Legislative Assembly building here yesterday.

“There are many opinions out there and our Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg has decided that we need to have our own team to study any facts related to the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” she pointed out.

Hasidah said the legal team comprised people of diverse backgrounds with their own expertise.

“It is not a waste of money for our team to go to London. We want to be sure about the state’s rights and we are sent by the government.

“The team of 7 or 8 members is going to various places which have the relevant documents including the archives and libraries in a week’s time,” added the Assistant Minister. Who is leading the state’s legal team to London.

Others in the team include State Legal Counsel, Datuk JC Fong, State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker, Datuk Gerawat Gala and lawyers from the State Attorney General Chambers.

It is learnt that the team will be in London for four or five days from 16 July.
