KUCHING: With three former green zones in Sarawak turning yellow today, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has described the fight against Covid-19 as “an uphill battle”.

Four new positive Covid-19 cases were reported today which one case each in Serian, Bintulu, Tanjung Manis and Kuching.

“It is not just another four cases but it showed how hard it is to fight this pandemic. We really need all Sarawakians to do their part and to take Covid-19 seriously,” he said in his Facebook post today.

On the new case in Serian, he said it was discovered after contact tracing was done by the State Health Department. The Serian case, he explained, had a close contact with a Covid-19 positive case.

“The case from Kuching had severe acute respiratory infection, had been to the private doctor and private hospital. But because of precautionary standard operating procedure at SGH, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result came back positive,” he said.

Dr Sim said both the new cases in Bintulu and Tanjung Manis were students who had not shown any symptoms.

“In the Belawai, Tanjung Manis case, the student tested positive as part of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC)’s additional policy where students returning from a red zone (Kuching) to a green zone must have the PCR taken on Day Seven to Day 12 and undergo a 14-day quarantine at home,” he added.
