KUCHING: Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof yesterday distributed 300 packets of “nasi briyani” (Indian spiced rice) to passers-by and residents who lived near Surau Bandarsah at Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol here.

The programme was organised by Persatuan Anak Seni Bandarsah Kuching (PASBK).

The idea to initiate the distribution of nasi briyani came from PASBK chairman Abdul Rahman Zainudin who is also an entrepreneur in nasi briyani business.

“Usually we will see distribution of ‘bubur lambuk’ (Malaysian spiced congee), ‘bubur cha cha’ (Nyonya dessert of mixed porridge) and ‘bubur pedas’ (Sarawak spicy porridge) during Ramadan.

“Today, PASBK adds another dish to the list with its signature dish, nasi briyani,” explained Fadilah.

He added “Whatever dish you see for distribution; the most important message is that the fasting month is the time for people to do a lot of sadaqah (charity)”.

“There’s a lot of things you can choose (to give) for sadaqah such as food, clothes, monetary and physical assistance. Even a smile is a sadaqah in the religion of Islam. This is to nurture the habit of sharing and fostering good ties among human beings.”
