The announcement by MoH in a post on Twitter that the term ‘social distancing’ would be replaced with ‘physical distancing.’

KUCHING: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has announced that the term “social distancing” would be replaced with “physical distancing”.

The announcement was posted on the ministry’s Twitter account today (July 31).

Replying to a comment by a netizen, MoH explained that the term “physical distancing” was suitable with the concept of distancing from others for safety purposes.

“This term is recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to its member countries including Malaysia to replace the term ‘social distancing” because it is more accurate from the medical point of view,” it said.

Social distancing of at least one to two metres  from other people is an important practice to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Since the nationwide movement control order (MCO) took effect on March 18, the government has constantly reminded the people to adhere to the safety standard operating procedure (SOPs) which include social distancing, wearing of masks, use of hand sanitiser,  good personal hygiene and avoidance of crowded places.
