KUCHING: Shoppers can check out the new outdoor giant Christmas tree at Plaza Merdeka here dressed with reindeers, bells and glistening baubles from now until Jan 31, 2023.
Christmas is close at the heart of Plaza Merdeka as it was the first festive launch which coincided with the month the mall first opened its door to the public on Dec 12, 2012.
As such, this year’s Christmas is meaningfully themed ‘Memory of Christmas’ to pay tribute to Plaza Merdeka’s 10 years of evolution.
“To go along with the theme, we reused and recycled the props and decorative pieces accumulated over the past 10 years since the first Christmas to reminisce the journey we embarked on,” said executive director of Plaza Merdeka Holdings Sdn Bhd Datin Anriza Wong Cordero in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 23).
“They are revamped, reimagined and employed from a new perspective to fit in with the new pieces acquired – in harmony. This is in line with the fundamental principle that Plaza Merdeka is built on,” she added.
The ‘Memory of Christmas’ was launched by managing director of Plaza Merdeka Holdings Sdn Bhd Datuk Steve Ng; Anriza; Mayor of Kuching North City Commission Datuk Junaidi Reduan and wife Datin Dayangku Rohani Awangku Kassim.
Other directos of Plaza Merdeka, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot and wife Puan Sri Teresa Tayod and Datin Azerina Mohd Arip were also among those present at the launch.
Shoppers are invited to experience friendly shopping and dining at Plaza Merdeka with the opening of several new brands and food and beverage (F&B) outlets such as the experiential community retail and play space Garden Box at lower ground; technology and lifestyle gadgets store Urban Republic; popular iconic cuisines at Tapawlah and more.
Plaza Merdeka is also anticipating the extension of the dining zone at level 3 opening in the first quarter of 2023.
Shoppers will also stand a chance to win amazing prices at lucky draw including TV and iPhone.
A series of Christmas events and activities are lined up for the shoppers to participate and join in the festivities namely – Christmas Tree Making Contest; Santa appearance; Christmas party; Christmas carol and performances; Christmas Open Mic; wishing Tree; Christmas Charity Drive and more.
