KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian welcomes the COVID-19 vaccination programme for children below 12 starting next month.

He said it was timely in view of the reopening of schools in Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

“Sarawak will continue the great partnership with Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and the Ministry of Health (MOH) on the rolling out of the vaccination.

“This includes the remaining gaps of the COVID-19 National Immunisation Programme (PICK) for those five to 11 years old,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Jan 21).

He was responding to Khairy’s statement that the COVID-19 vaccination programme for children aged five to 12 would begin on Feb 3.

In relation to that, Khairy said parents could book appointment slots via Sejahtera starting Jan 31 and that the process would be in phases starting with the Klang Valley first.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, assured MOH of Sarawakian solidarity in getting the vaccination done.

“This is as evidenced by one of the highest vaccination rates for the first, second, and booster dose in the whole nation,” he said.
