Jail, rotan for armed robbery

SIBU: A labourer who stabbed an officer of the Sibu National Anti-drug Agency on the chest, was sentenced to a total 17 years and two months jail plus five strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court here yesterday.

Raymond Bakak Kinsing, 18, from Bandar Baru Permyjaya, Miri was given 10 years jail and three strokes of the rotan under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt to the victim, Juing Garai, 28, with a knife.

He was also sentenced to another six years jail and one stroke of the rotan under Section 392 and 397 of the same Code for robbing the victim of his wallet and motorcycle while armed with a knife.

The accused (centre) is led out of the courtroom after sentencing.

The offences were committed between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on September 1 at the National Anti-drug Agency’s Cure and Care Centre in Jalan Upper Lanang while the accused was being treated for drug addiction.

According to the charge sheet, the victim was taking a rest at a staff rest room when the accused took out a knife and stabbed him in his chest.

After stabbing him, Raymond robbed him of his belongings and fled on the victim’s motorcycle.

The victim was admitted to hospital on the same day and discharged six days later.

Raymond was arrested at Samalaju Park in Bintulu on Sept 2.
