KUCHING: Works to upgrade the drainage system at Jalan Bintawa here have been completed said Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii.
He said the handing over of the project, which was funded by the Bandar Kuching parliamentary allocation, took place last Saturday morning.
“This morning, we did the official handover of the drainage upgrades at Jalan Bintawa. The contracts state that there is warranty for the design for up to six months and I will continue to monitor for any flaws (in the project),” he said.
He said this in a Facebook post last Saturday, adding that the project’s purpose was to help with recurring flood problems whenever there is a heavy downpour in the area.
“I am glad that the residents have feedback for us many times this past few months, even with heavy rain, there was no occurrence of flash floods in the area.
“Even yesterday, when many places in Kuching were flooded, that area did not flood,” he said referring to the heavy rain that occurred last Friday night which severely affected various places in the city.
Dr Yii expressed hope that with the drainage upgrades, it will help improve the flood problems faced by the dwellers.
“We hope it will help with the situation and we will continue to do our best to serve the people in our constituency,” he said.
