MIRI: The Miri Health Department is investigating the Jalan Lilin Cluster sparked by a birthday celebration to determine if there is violation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Minister in charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) Datuk Lee Kim Shin reiterated that social gatherings were not allowed as clearly spelt out by the SOPs.

“We could see that social gatherings have been one of the main causes of clusters in Miri.

“Since this year to date, there were eight clusters that were caused by social gatherings,” he said today (May 14).

He said the clusters were Bah Sayap Cluster, Rakut Cluster, Seruas Cluster, Gridbid Cluster, Jalan Kapitan Cluster, Abak Bon Cluster, Jalan Limbang Cluster, and the latest Jalan Lilin Cluster.

“Once again, we strongly appeal for the cooperation and support of everyone to stop holding social gatherings.

“Our enforcement teams will not hesitate to take action against anyone who does so and those who breach the SOPs,” he warned.

The Senadin assemblyman said that he has called the Resident and Miri City Council secretary to organise community policing to ensure all SOPs are complied with.

“We wish also to seek public cooperation to report any social gatherings so that action can be taken,” he said.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) yesterday (May 13) said the Jalan Lilin Cluster was a community cluster involving a social ceremony – a birthday – at Jalan Lilin, Taman Tunku in Miri District.
