MIRI: The upgrading of the much-awaited Jalan Ulu Suai in Niah, Subis is 21.62 percent done, which is well ahead of the scheduled 20.53 percent.

“This project is a testimony of the state government’s commitment to improve roads, especially those in the rural areas,” said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday after visiting the Ulu Suai project site.

He reckoned that the road will also contribute to economic recovery for the local people who are mostly involved in oil palm cultivation as it provides access to their estates and nearby towns such as Niah and Miri.

The upgrading and improvement of the 19-km road, which costs RM67.99 million, is fully funded by the state government, and is expected to be completed by November next year.

The road will be linked to Miri coastal road at an additional cost of RM3 million to benefit nearly 4,000 people in Ulu Suai. There are 13 longhouses and four villages within the area.

“We, in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, have never failed to deliver what we promised, unlike the current opposition who failed when they were in the previous government. They were chaotic and could not do their jobs,” Abang Johari continued.

Regarding a newly formed political party, he described it as problematic because the majority of those who joined it are “problematic” people.

“GPS, which is very stable and focused, emphasises rural development. And we helped create the majority that made sure Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin became the prime minister,” he said.

“So give us another five more years to lead the state government for continuous development.”

Also present during the site visit were Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Stephen Rundi Utom, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Assistant Minister for Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus and Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi.
