KAPIT: Veteran crooner Datuk Jamal Abdillah has given his vote of approval to Sarawak.
You are blessed to be born in Sarawak, he told the audience before performing at the state-level Youth Day at Dewan Suarah Kapit on Saturday (Dec 2).

“Sarawak has a lot of land that can be explored by entrepreneurs. So, I suggest that you strive, seize opportunities, look for jobs without worrying about qualifications, highlight your potential, and maintain a positive attitude,” he said.

Jamal also had kind words for Youth, Sport, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to officiate at the event.

“Datuk Seri is very popular on television; I always watch. Datuk Seri is a Minister who is articulate and firm and I enjoy watching him,” he said.

Among others who performed at the opening ceremony were local singers such as Ramles Walter and Ricky Anderson.

Themed ‘Belia Maju Sarawak Makmur’ (Youths Succeed, Sarawak Prospers), the event from Dec 1-3 is expected to draw around 10,000 people.

The activities lined up for the programmes are based on the ‘7K’ concept encompassing culture, sports, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, creativity, and spirituality, in line with the approaches outlined in the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Among the highlights of the event is the unveiling of a 16’×8′ Sarawak flag made from beads, recognised by The Malaysia Book Of Records as the Largest State Flag Made of Beads.

Meanwhile, Mohd Akram Mohd Karim was awarded the ‘Anugerah Belia Sarawak’ for the men’s category, Lyona Stephen (women’s category), and Kelab Belia Tanjung Kidurong (association’s category).

Both Lyona and Akram received a RM5,000 for their exceptional efforts, while Kelab Belia Tanjung Kidurong received RM10,000.
