James Wong’s wife passes on, burial Saturday

KUCHING: Datin Amar Valerie Bong Kui Inn who died on Wednesday morning will be laid to rest in Limbang on Saturday (March 12).

A funeral service was held on Thursday at the St Thomas Cathedral here after which her remains was flown to Limbang where a two-night wake will be held at the family home prior to burial.

Valerie, 98, was the wife of the late Datuk Amar James Wong Kim Min, Sarawak’s first deputy chief minister who died in 2011. They married in the 1940s.

According to an obituary published in a local newspaper here, she will be laid to rest at the Anglican Burial Ground, Mile 2 ½ Pandaruan Road at 10am.

Valerie passed away on March 9 at 4am leaving behind three sons and five daughters.

Her son Alexander left a poignant message on Facebook on Wednesday.

“Dear Friends. Thank You for your well wishes. My mum left us this morning and she’s now with dad in a beautiful place of peace and love,” he said.
