JaPen enlivens national month celebration

Date:

KUCHING: The national month celebration was enlivened by staff members of the Information Department of Malaysia (JaPen) Sarawak led by its director Swady Guliling at JaPen’s office compound on Thursday.

Swady giving his speech.

Following the celebration, Swady said that JaPen Sarawak has planned over 500 Info on Wheels (IoW) programmes throughout Sarawak with the involvement of the Jalur Gemilang Convoy (KJG)

“The convoy will go around Kuching city and public places while spreading national messages to the community through patriotic songs and community service orders played through the vehicle speakers,” he said.

Swady mentioned that despite the challenges of not being able to gather and hold a massive celebration, JaPen Sarawak has come out with several strategies to ensure public participation during the national month.

“Selfie Wefie Merdeka 2021 Sarawak and KDS TikTok Merdeka Challenge are two online competitions that have been organised to enliven the celebration; the competitions will take place starting from Aug 18 to Sept 18.

“Even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, we must not forget to celebrate the country’s independence month to remembering the struggle of previous generations who liberated the country from colonialism.

“Celebrations like this will encourage the people to fight against Covid-19,” he said.

Swady added that apart from JaPen Compound, the KJG convoy also circled around the main roads in Kuching city and held a symbolic flag hoisting event at Padang Merdeka as well as at Kuching Waterfront.
