KUCHING: Jas FC won the 54th edition of the Kampung Sambir Unity Cup football tournament when they beat SHOAW Oldboys 1-0 in the final at the Kampung Sambir football field, Asajaya.

Former Kuching City FC striker Paul Sambang emerged as the hero when he scored the winning goal in the 51st minute.

Victory saw Jas FC take home RM5,000, a trophy, medals and a RM1,000 cash voucher sponsored by Lea Sports Centre.

SHOAW Oldboys pocketed RM3,000, taking home a trophy, medals and a RM600 cash voucher as well.

Losing semi-finalists GTA Telaga Air and Mix A each received RM1,500 apart from medals and a RM300 cash voucher.

Jas FC sensation and former Sarawak player Abang Za’afari Abang Othman was chosen as the best player of the final while 644 United striker Shafik Musa won the top scorer award, bagging 12 goals. Both players received trophies and vouchers.

The Veteran category saw Katahil FT emerge as champions after beating Sri Muara 3-2 via a penalty shootout after the match ended scoreless in full-time.

Katahil FT picked up RM1,000 along with a trophy and medals while Sri Muara walked away with RM700, trophy and medals.

Sambir Bistari and BNG FC each received RM300, a trophy and medals as the losing semi-finalists.

The prize-giving ceremony was officiated at by Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Also present were Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang, Lea Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Dato Raymond Sim Hee Pang, Sambir Bistari Football Club patron Datuk Abdullah Julaihi; Buang Bolhassan, a political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak; Asajaya District officer Rais Ahmat and community leaders.
