BINTULU: Jepak will be renamed Japak Jaya once it is developed under the second wave of development in this industrial town.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the area would be systematically developed to include a Resident Office, affordable houses and other amenities.

He said that the first-wave of development in Bintulu had been done which included the development in Samalaju and Kidurong areas.

Abang Johari assured that Bintulu would not only be developed as an industrial town but also into a social town equipped with adequate facilities. This is in tandem with making Bintulu a competitive town.

“A new approach has to be taken to develop Bintulu taking into consideration that the state is now heading towards a digital economy.

“Now almost everything is done via online, you can even sell belacan (shrimp paste) from Bintulu to the world at your fingertips and at the same time your economy increases.

He reminded that unity must remain strong so that the development could be carried out smoothly while attracting more investors to invest in the state.

Among those present were Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, and Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip.
