KUCHING: Transportation Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil’s resignation from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) is a disappointment, said its president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.

“Dr Jerip was one of the leaders who contributed the idea of transforming the party’s name from United People’s Party (UPP) to PSB.

“For him (Dr Jerip), UPP symbolises the Chinese which reflects lacking in racial diversity, so he proposed the name change from UPP to PSB in order to attract more Bumiputera supporters.

“PSB is not just working with the Bidayuh community, but also with all the communities in the state.

“I am disappointed that he left us this way,” he told a press conference at the Baitulmakmur Building here, yesterday.

When asked whether he and Dr Jerip are still in contact with each other, Wong replied in the negative.

“This is indeed a democratic world. One can choose to come and go in a party where in our situation, PSB itself has lost a leader,” he said.
