SEBUYAU: Villagers of Kampung Sungai Merah here will soon have a new jetty.

The construction of the 100-metre long jetty aims to facilitate the residents’ journey to Sebuyau Town.

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) in a news report, the Kampung Sungai Merah Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) has received the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM40,000 for the construction of the jetty.

The grant was presented by Special Officer to the Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Yusuf Buji to the village chief of Kampung Sungai Merah Henry Aboi in a brief ceremony recently.

In addition, the allocation of MRP is one of the Sarawak government’s efforts to boost development, especially in rural areas in terms of infrastructure or socio-economics.

In other developments, the villagers of Kampung Sungai Merah and the surrounding area will benefit from the development of the 28.5-km Second Trunk Road connecting Sebuyau to Lingga which is expected to be completed in 2025.
