JICA and SGH commemorate 30 years of cooperation

KUCHING: Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Malaysia recently commemorated its 30 years of cooperation.

myJICA president Norazizul Abdul Aziz stated that more than 40 guests including staff from SGH, State Health Department and myJICA alumni attended the event on Yesterday (Sept 15).

He said the programme organised by myJICA in collaboration with SGH was officiated by chief representative of JICA, Takizawa Masahiko.

“The programme which is a first of aimed to commemorate 30 years of cooperation between JICA and SGH in conjunction with the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Look East Policy between Malaysia and Japan.

“A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in January 1992 between the Malaysia government and Japanese government for technical cooperation.

“The five-year project commencing on Aug 1 in 1992 and concluded on July 31 in 1997 saw upgrading of the accident and emergency services throughout of Sarawak,” he said in a statement.

Norazizul congratulated and expressed gratitude to the SGH management and committee members who have provided tremendous support and cooperation in making the programme a success.

“In addition, the celebration of the 17th anniversary of the establishment of myJICA Sarawak and a meeting session with myJICA Sarawak alumni were also held in conjunction with the programme,” he added.
