SIBU: The state government will continue to strengthen the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) because of the leadership roles they play at the grassroots level in the state’s development agenda.

In stating this, Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad pointed out the success or progress of villages and community institutions depended on efficient governance and leadership at the JKKK level.

Therefore, he said, the roles of the JKKKs had received great recognition from the state government over the years.

“The state government is aware that the JKKKs serve as the eyes and ears of the government at the grassroots level.

“Therefore, JKKKs are the most important committees in ensuring that the government’s development agenda is implemented while maintaining harmony and unity among the people,” he said.

Safiee said this while officiating at the Sibu District Community Policing Workshop for Bukit Besai, Sungai Lengan and Batang Lassa Zones at a hotel in Sibu on Tuesday (Oct 20).

Meanwhile, Sibu District Officer Suhaili Mohammed said that the programme was attended by 437 JKKKs from Sibu district. Each JKKK was represented by three participants.

He said one of the aims of organising the workshop was to expose the JKKK members to the new norms following the Covid-19 pandemic.
