JKMS, JWKS get new directors

KUCHING: The Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK) has appointed new directors for the state’s Social Welfare Department (JKMS) as well as the Women and Family Department (JWKS).

KWKPK Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the new JKMS director reported for duty on March 1, while the new JWKS director reported for duty today.

“Noriah Ahmad was previously JWKS’ director for six years from 2015 to 2021. Prior to that, she was the ministry’s director for women bureau for a year. She is now JKMS’ new director.

“Among others, she will be in charge of welfare assistance, childcare, protection and rehabilitation, care and protection of the elderly, rehabilitation of young offenders as well as productive development and empowerment of target groups,” she said.

She added that Noriah will also oversee counselling and psychology services, rehabilitation and development of people with disabilities (OKU), law enforcement as well as development of community and welfare volunteers’ organisations.

On the other hand, JKWS’ new director is Norita Bawi who was previously the deputy director of the Islamic Affairs Department Sarawak (Jais).

“Norita will be responsible for economic empowerment and entrepreneurship for women, among others.

“Her responsibilities include being the secretariat of Sarawak Women and Family Council (MWKS), key coordinator of eWanita application, cooperating with the ministry for iSarawak Care and to act as an implementing agency for iSuri,” she added.
