KUCHING: The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway Branch has issued a reminder to prioritise road safety during the festive season.

The department urged road users to exercise mindfulness and drive with heightened caution, particularly along the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway when journeying back to their respective hometowns.

“Everyday, numerous accidents are recorded on the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway.

“Among the identified causes of accidents are driving too fast or loss of control, micro sleep, reckless driving and going against traffic especially on P-turns,” it said in a Facebook post.

Unsafe vehicle conditions, unintentional intersection exits, and driving under the influence of alcohol were also cited as contributors to accidents, according to JKR.

“Refrain from letting your emotions dictate your actions, and avoid making others and those with families suffer as a result.

“Drive carefully, your life and the lives of others are important,” it said.

Meanwhile, the department extended warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, hoping for a joyous and memorable festive season while urging everyone to exercise utmost caution on the roads.
