Jobless male fined RM1,500 for house-trespass

KUCHING: An unemployed man was sentenced to a fine of RM1,500 in default two months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for breaking into the house of his neighbour, a 58-year-old woman.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi sentenced Jeffrey, 44, after pleading guilty to charge under Section 448 of the Penal Code which carries a sentence of up to three years’ jail time or fined up to RM5,000 or both.

Based on the charge, he committed the act at a house in Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Jalan Desa Wira, Batu Kawa, here at about 1.40 pm on Feb 1.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the complainant’s neighbour (the accused) suddenly came to her house and kicked the house door, causing damage.

The complainant said she failed to understand the reason for the accused’s behaviour in damaging the door of her house.

Worried about her safety, the complainant came forward to make a police report for action and further investigation leading to the arrest of the accused on Feb 2.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
