SIBU: An unemployed man, 31, was arrested by the police here for threatening a woman on Tuesday.

Acting Sibu OCPD Supt Dr Collin Babat said the incident occurred at 12.30 pm in front of a bank in Jalan Mission.

He said the complainant, 28, was sitting in her car with her six-year-old son and nephew aged 15 months, while waiting for her father to run an errand in the bank.

She told the police that a man suddenly came out of nowhere and tried to open the car door and the complainant then quickly closed the windows and asked the man what he wanted.

The man then reacted aggressively, Supt Collin disclosed, and said the woman, worried for her safety and the young children’s inside, called her father who rushed out after seeking help from the bank’s security guard.

The suspect fled but was soon arrested by the police.

He will be charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries a two- year jail sentence or fine or both.
