MIRI: A local jobless man was arrested this morning for allegedly injuring his girlfriend during a quarrel inside their rented house at Taman Hilltop here.
Police personnel from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department nabbed the 31-year-old man following a report lodged by the 21-year-old victim.
Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect is being detained to assist police in their probe into the case.
In the incident which occurred around 8pm on Friday, the suspect had allegedly assaulted and threatened his girlfriend, after she advised him to change and become a better person.
Thereafter the suspect went berserk leading to the quarrel when he allegedly hit the victim.
According to sources, the suspect has been constantly asking for money from his friends, with no effort to look for employment.
The case is being investigated under Sections 506 and 323 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt to a person.
