Jobless man detained for possessing meth

MUKAH: A 47-year-old unemployed man, who has been involved in drug abuse since early 2018, was arrested by police here on Thursday for possessing 0.10gm of methamphethamine (syabu) valued at about RM50.


The suspect from Kampung Tellian Laut here was the third person to be arrested in the space of six days following the second arrest at Jalan Kampung Petanak here on Nov 9 and the first arrest in the town area on Nov 5.

Mukah district police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said on Nov 11 at about 8.30pm during “Ops Tapis”, a police team arrested the man in front of a shop at Jalan Setia Raja.

He was suspected to be involved in drug abuse activities.
Muhamad added a packet of cigarette was seized from the suspect’s right hand and further check found that it contained a small green straw tube filled with crystalline substance, suspected to be methamphetamine, weighing about 0.10gm.

“The suspect was brought to the police station for further action and a urine test found that he was drug positive,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the district police chief, initial investigation found that the suspect had been involved in drug abuse activities since early 2018 and that he had obtained the supply in the Kampung Tellian Laut area.

The suspect is currently in police custody pending application for remand order by the investigation officer yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
