Jobless man gets eight years for armed robbery

KUCHING: An unemployed man was sentenced to eight years in prison and four strokes of the rotan after pleading guilty to armed robbery, today.

Sessions Court Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd Yusof ordered the 34-year-old man from Siniawan to carry out the sentence imposed from Sept 26 last year.

The accused was charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code and read with Section 397 of the same Code.

The accused committed the offense at 11.30pm at a chicken farm in Tanjung Durian, Siniawan on Aug 1, 2019 with two other friends, who are still at large.

According to the case facts, on Aug 2, 2019, the complainant lodged a police report at 2.20am that on the day of the incident, while at the chicken farm with a lorry driver, he was approached by four unknown men.

The group came on two motorcycles and a green Proton Saga car with registration number QKF4337.

One man, who was armed with a machete, attacked the complainant in the head and neck while another managed to seize the complainant’s wallet and car keys and fled with the complainant’s car.

The complainant was then sent by his employee to Bau Hospital for treatment.

Following the police report, the 34-year-old suspect was arrested and during investigation, it was found that the suspect had robbed the complainant along with two friends known only as Dino and Lobo. At the time of the robbery, the complainant was injured on the head and sustained scratches on the right side of the neck.
