Johari allocates RM100,000 to kick start SPI

KUCHING: Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg allocate RM100,000 grant to Kuching Division Journalist Association (KDJA) to kick start the set-up of Sarawak Press Institute (SPI).

This was announced by Johari during his speech at the ‘Santai Media bersama Abang Jo’ programme at Grand Margherita Hotel on Sunday night.

“For the grand launching of SPI, I will support and allocate RM100,000. You (journalists) will then work together with the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) and increase our reporting standards.

Johari also said that a scholarship will be given to journalist who wanted to further their studies in journalism.

“This is the way for us to improve on how to analyse the subject matter very well so that the journalist can produce a very good news report. The background is important for journalist with proper training,

“I will give more if you need it. That is a promise,” Johari said, adding that the media plays a very important role in delivering news and information to public.

He also informed that, in July, he will be tabling the update of State Oil Mining Ordinance 1958 in State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

Johari ended his speech by expressing his gratitude to the media for the good

cooperation to various agencies as well as good coverage of official functions.
