KUCHING: Youth affected by the movement control order (MCO) have been told to join homegrown Helpy e-delivery service as riders.

Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman made the call when speaking to reporters during the soft launching of Helpy Delivery service in Gita here yesterday.

“Youth who are unemployed can apply to become riders for e-delivery services like Helpy, Food Panda, Grab Food, Lyfe Delivery, and so on,” he added.

He said they should view the current crisis as an opportunity for them to explore the gig economy.

“Think of the options to participate in the labour force,” he said.

Noting the surging demand by customers to buy online products, Fazzruddin said the trend would continue post Covid-19.

“Thus, youth are encouraged to apply as riders with the increasing demand for online services,” he added.

Meanwhile, Metrocity N6 Youth Night Market management team member, Mohamad Khairuzie Bolhassan said most of the hawkers and traders at the market had already utilised the digital apps.

“The hawkers and traders who were badly affected by the MCO are now very much relieved after engaging with the e-delivery service platforms.

“Many agree that small businesses should also go online to stay afloat. Many will continue their online businesses even after the night market reopen.

“We are very thankful to have our Tupong assemblyman as our patron. He has been supporting us and encouraging our youth to be involved in entrepreneurship,” he said.
