KUCHING: The Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (SABATI) and the Malaysian Government Servants’ Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) have organised the inaugural ‘Jom Polah Kuih Bulan’ competition held recently.

SABATI president Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang was present to officiate at the event.

According to SABATI treasurer Datin Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin, about 60 participants from 20 groups of various ethnicities representing government and private bodies participated in the competition in conjunction with the upcoming mooncake festival.

“The competition is organised to strengthen social ties within the diverse communities and to learn about the traditional culture of the Chinese community.

“The objective of the event is also to learn about the preparation of mooncakes,” she was quoted as saying in UKAS report.

Furthermore, Siti Shorgayah said mooncakes symbolise unity and tolerance among the communities in Sarawak.

“Peace and harmony are the theme for the event, therefore, we must live together as a diverse and harmonious community,” she said.
