KUCHING: Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) is a great opportunity for scouts in Sarawak to get connected globally with their peers once a year.

Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak Captain Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan in a statement on yesterday (Oct 21) said this year’s ham radio stations were set up in Kuching, Betong, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

“The station in Kuching catered for scouts from Kuching, Petra Jaya, Matang, Kota Samarahan, Serian and Bau and the Betong station catered for scouts around Betong, and Sibu station catered for scouts around Sibu.

“Bintulu station catered for scouts around Bintulu and Miri station catered for scouts in Miri and Lambir,” he said while officiating JOTA at the scout headquarters here recently.

Therefore, he said the scouts in Sarawak cold contact their peers globally.

“Beside using ham radio, the scouts were also given the opportunity to contact their peers via the internet.

“To make the event more interesting and memorable, scouts from outside Kuching also set up camps in the Batu Lintang scout headquarters ground,” the statement added.
