KUCHING: A journalist from a local daily was assaulted by three men while covering a fatal accident at the Darul Hana Housing project site behind Petronas petrol station, Ulu Bintawa last Saturday (Feb 20).

District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani revealed that the incident happened when the 45-year-old man arrived at the scene to cover an accident that occurred around 2.50pm.

At the time, the journalist was approached and scolded by three men for recording the fatal accident at the scene.

“The (three) suspects asked him to delete the pictures that had been taken. However, they are said to have gotten upset after discovering that there were still pictures of the deceased in the journalist’s phone.

“As a result, it led to an argument between the four of them before the suspects acted aggressively and assaulted him (the journalist),” Awang Din said.

The suspects also warned the man not to publish the incident. Fearing for his safety, the journalist immediately lodged a police report.
