SIBU: Journalists are frontliners in combating Covid-19, said Sibu Journalists Association (SJA) chairman Hii Hiong Wee.

“This is because we go to the ground interviewing the public to get the real news, and we do not know whether the people we are dealing with are Covid-19 patients,” he explained.

Hii urged the public not to believe any fake news during the movement control order (MCO).

“People should keep up with the outbreak news through reliable media sources.

“SJA supports the MCO and appeals to the public to adhere to it by staying at home,”

RTM journalist, Madelina Jawai, who is also member of Sibu Journalist Association (SJA) also said that journalists or media practitioners were frontliners in the fight against Covid-19 because they delivered daily information to the public.

For example, she said during the current situation, the public waited for the latest news on the outbreak every day.

Being a journalist requires dedication, responsibility and commitment, especially in delivering accurate and valid information.

“Journalists also play a role in finding news items and delivering the news for general knowledge.

“Journalists face a variety of situations, both unexpected and unexpected. Thus, they have very challenging jobs,” said Madelina.
